Creating Architecty Studio has by far been one of the most rewarding things I've done so far. In part because I get to share my roots with you.
As you may know, I was born in Haiti and part of who I am is due to the foundation parents instilled in me. Sometimes, we don't realize that we learn things subconsciously from the ones we hang around a lot.
My great great adoptive grandmother from my father's side used to make candles for churches for a living back in the day. And since my father lived with her, he also took part of that skill which he later on passed on to me.
Speaking to my dad the other day, he mentioned that he would have never guess that this would be one of the skills I would develop, but also that he saw his grandmother in me. Since I've never had the pleasure of meeting her, I do take this as a compliment and motivation to keep pushing.
